A group of jockeys filed and won a federal lawsuit allowing them to have corporate advertising on their racing pants. They told the court this was a First Amendment issue, their right to free speech. Of course this freedom could earn them $30,000 each.
There are some limitations:
- They cannot advertise gambling (at a racetrack?)
- A jockey’s advertising cannot conflict with the track’s own sponsors (what about free speech?)
- The advertising cannot be inappropriate (perhaps a label saying, “Ride me.”)
